As you celebrate, we hope you’ll enjoy some of the 29 fics written this year. :D

  • Party Favors is optional and open to everyone.
  • Browse the requests here on DW or here on AO3.
  • There is no sign up or claiming. If something catches your eye and you want to do a fill for it, go right ahead!
  • There is no minimum requirement for Party Favors fills.

Full details here.

Happy Makoto’s Birthday, everyone! 💖💝💗
makobdayexchange: (2016)

With just under 24 hours to Makoto’s birthday in Japan, I’m super excited to say that all participants now have a gift. Fantastic job, everyone! (There’s about a day to edit and polish fills before works go live.)

Thank you to all our pinch hitters, even the ones who didn’t end up with an assignment: just knowing you had the exchange’s back on this was a great reassurance. ❤

Party Favors is open until the end of the day after Makoto’s birthday in the last time zone on Earth – which means there are still close to 4 days left in the bonus round!

  • Party Favors is optional and open to everyone.
  • There is no sign up or claiming. If something catches your eye and you want to do a fill for it, go right ahead!
  • Fills should follow the same Guidelines as those for regular assignments, with one exception: There is no minimum requirement for Party Favor fills.

We are now in the final 24 hours to the November 7 JST deadline! (This applies to the main round only; Party Favors – the bonus round open to everyone – is another story.)

Please note and keep in mind that the the time and date of the deadline may not match the time and date in your own timezone. Every year there is someone who says they didn’t know this, but that will not be accepted as an excuse this year.

So to avoid confusion, please use these links:

NOTE: You will have the time between the deadline and reveals to polish your fill; it only has to be complete by the deadline, not perfect. :D

If you do need to request an extension, please email me. You may ask for an additional 1-2 days; experience has shown that longer extensions usually result in the participant dropping at a late date and a pinch hitter having to work under pressure for a tight deadline. Let’s be as nice as we can to our pinch hitters!

It’s not too late to join as a pinch hitter, btw. In fact, we’d love to have you!

If you have any questions that aren’t answered at those links, let me know.

Have fun and good luck!

This is a reminder that there are two weeks to the November 7 JST deadline for main round fills. (The deadline for Party Favors – the bonus round open to everyone – is different, of course; more info here.)

We wanted to see how you’re all doing, so here’s a quick survey when you have a chance (it should take less than a minute):

FILL PROGRESS SURVEY

Please be honest with yourself when reponding. This is an opportunity for realistic assessment, so we can make sure there are enough pinch hitters and/or prepare for other possibilities and keep the exchange running smoothly.

If you are requesting an extension, please send that directly to Miaou in addition to filling out the survey. You may ask for an additional 1-2 days; experience has shown that longer extensions usually result in the participant dropping at a late date. (If it helps, keep in mind that you will have the time between the deadline and reveals to polish your fill; it only has to be complete by the deadline, not perfect.)

If you need to drop out for whatever reason, please do so through AO3 as soon as possible, in order to give the pinch hitter who steps in for you a fair amount of time to work on the fill.

Please note and keep in mind that the exchange runs on JST, so the date of the deadline may not match the date in your own timezone. To avoid confusion, please use these links:

Good luck!

This is just a reminder that your fill is due in under three weeks, on November 7 JST.

Please note and keep in mind that the exchange runs on JST, so the date of the deadline may not match the date in your own timezone. To avoid confusion, please use these links:

countdown clock | time zone converter (use "change your location")

Here are some other useful links:There is no penalty for dropping out. If you need to do so for any reason, please do it through AO3 as soon as possible, to give the pinch hitter who fills in for you as much time as possible.

If you have any questions that aren't answered at those links, let me know.

Happy creating!

Party Favors is a bonus round for extra gifts. Anyone can do a Party Favors fill. :D

To be clear, there are two types of fills for the Makoto Birthday Exchange:
  • Assignment Fill = Required of participants, open only to signed-up participants
  • Party Favors (Extra) Fill = Optional, open to literally everyone
No sign-up or claiming is required for Party Favors. Everyone is welcome to do a Party Favors fill, whether or not you signed up as an original participant. (You don’t get anything out of doing Party Favors except the joy of making someone happy.)

Party Favor fills have no word count or pixel minimums. They’re just meant to be an extra little treat for the recipient (and a way to do a fill for a prompt you might be in love with but didn’t get assigned, or something for a friend or someone you admire, or for whatever reason you choose). :D

The past two years, we’ve run Party Favors as a bonus round at the end of the exchange. This year, we're running it simultaneously with the main round, with a later deadline than the main round (the day after Makoto's birthday).

In bullet points:

  • Party Favors 2016 runs September 29 - November 18 (one day after Makoto’s birthday).
  • Party Favors is optional and open to everyone.
  • There is no sign up or claiming. If something catches your eye and you want to do a fill for it, go right ahead!
  • Fills should follow the same Guidelines as those for regular assignments, with one exception:
    • There is no minimum requirement for Party Favor fills.
If you have any questions, ask away.

Have fun!

Assignments for the 2016 Tachibana Makoto Birthday Exchange have gone out through AO3 (four days early!).

Please check your email for your assignment. Alternatively, you can find it by going to your AO3 dashboard: look on the side menu, scroll down to “Assignments,” and look for the one for “2016 Makoto Birthday Fanworks Exchange.”

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!

Matching had to be done manually outside of AO3 for this exchange, and then manually entered into AO3 in order to be sent out.

I used “manually” twice there to emphasize that this was not automated, so there were a lot of opportunities for human error. I quadruple checked the assignments before they went out and I think they’re right – but if you got an assignment that was not on your list, please let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It may be possible to correct your assignment (especially if two people got assignments meant for each other), and if not we’ll figure something out. If you want to let me know you got an assignment that works, I’d love to hear from you – but it’s not required.

If there are any other problems, let me know.

Thanks, and have fun!

Thank you for your interest in being a pinch hitter for the 2016 Tachibana Makoto Birthday Exchange! Here's some info for you:

What is a pinch hitter?

When a participant drops out for whatever reason, a pinch hitter is someone who steps up and accepts the assignment in their place (sometimes on very short notice). Pinch hitters are absolutely essential to the success of any exchange.

How does pinch hitting work?

Unlike regular assignments, pinch hits are not automatically assigned. Whenever one comes up, it goes out for claiming to all potential pinch hitters on a mailing list. If you’re interested in taking the assignment, you reply to the email. If you're not interested, you don't have to do anything. Pinch hits are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Do I have to be a participant in the exchange in order to be a pinch hitter?

Definitely not! We'll take anyone who's interested.

So then, how can I join the pinch hitter mailing list?
Leave a comment here with your name and a reliable email address you check regularly. Comments are screened and your email will be kept confidential.

Do I need an account anywhere in particular to participate?
Yes—the exchange is running through AO3 this year, so in order to accept a pinch hit assignment you will need an AO3 account. If you don't have one, you can go here to request a free account or let us know in your comment and we'll set you up with one.

And how much do you love me for signing up to be a pinch hitter?
A lot. So flippin' much, you don't even know!

Just in case you missed it above: to sign up as a pinch hitter, please leave a comment here (all comments are screened) with the following:
  • your name (whatever you want me to call you; including your AO3 name is optional at this point)
  • a reliable email address you check regularly
Thank you! ♥

If you're looking for a beta for your exchange fic or want to help someone else out, you've come to the right place. You are more than welcome to use your own beta, of course! This is just for those want one but aren't sure how to find one on their own or otherwise feel more comfortable doing it this way.

A couple of notes on who can use this post:
  • You do have to be a participant in the Makoto Birthday Exchange to ask for a beta.
  • You do NOT have to be a participant in the Makoto Birthday Exchange to be a beta for someone. :D
If you can't find a beta here, making a post on other site (fandom tagged or to a fandom comm) will usually do the trick.

If you are looking for a beta, please post this information in a comment below:
